Federal Communications Commission
The Federal Communications Commission (ComCom) is the independent regulatory authority for the telecommunications market. Established by the Law on Telecommunications (LTC) of 30 April 1997, it consists of 7 members nominated by the Federal Council. The Commission is not subject to any Federal Council or Department directives. It is independent of the administrative authorities and has its own secretariat.

Allocation of mobile radio frequencies available from 2029
The mobile phone licences awarded in 2012 expire at the end of 2028. As experience has shown that spectrum award procedures take several years, ComCom has begun initial preparations for the new allocation of the mobile frequencies auctioned in 2012.

Universal service
The universal service comprises a basic range of telecoms services of a good standard which must be offered throughout the country at an affordable price to all sections of the population.

ComCom grants licences for those frequencies which are approved by the Federal Council for the use with mobile communications. However, the competent authorities for questions on non-ionising radiation in DETEC are the FOEN and the OFCOM.
