Switzerland to take over chairmanship of the Rabat Process in 2026
Bern-Wabern, 29.01.2026 — Switzerland is to take over the chairmanship of the Euro–African Dialogue on Migration and Development (Rabat Process) this year. It will succeed Nigeria in leading this forum, which brings together almost 60 countries from Europe, North, West and Central Africa. This year, the forum is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
The Swiss chairmanship will focus on protection and asylum, as well as issues related to return, readmission and reintegration. These strategic priorities reflect Switzerland's commitment to a balanced migration policy and are in line with its national and international priorities.
During its chairmanship, Switzerland will organise several thematic meetings as well as the next Senior Officials Meeting in early 2027. Celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the Rabat Process will take place throughout the year. A member since the forum's establishment in 2006, Switzerland has always played an active role, including as a permanent member of the Steering Committee since 2022. This commitment forms a key part of its foreign migration policy, supporting enhanced dialogue on migration with both the EU and African states.

It offers a framework for consultation between countries of origin, transit, and destination with the aim of finding a coordinated and balanced responses to migration issues.
