Federal Council appoints new ComCom member

Bern, 29.11.2019 - The Federal Council has appointed Matthias Grossglauser, a proven telecommunications specialist, as a new member of the Federal Communications Commission (ComCom) from January 2020. Prof. Grossglauser is an associate professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). He replaces Jean-Pierre Hubaux, who is standing down from the Commission after completing the maximum term of office.

Prof. Matthias Grossglauser is an associate professor at the School of Computer and Communication Sciences at the EPFL and co-director of the Information and Network Dynamics Lab. His current research focuses on machine learning and data analytics for large social systems. After studying electrical engineering at the EPFL and completing a doctorate at the Institut National en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) in France, Prof. Grossglauser worked for several years at AT&T Research in New Jersey (USA) and at the Nokia Research Center in Finland (for further information on his professional career see link below).

ComCom is looking forward to working with Prof. Grossglauser, who will bring vital expertise to the Commission thanks to his profound knowledge of the various network technologies.

Prof. Jean-Pierre Hubaux stands down
After completing the maximum term of office of 12 years, Jean-Pierre Hubaux leaves the Commission at the end of this year. Thanks to his outstanding knowledge of telecommunications, Prof. Hubaux played a decisive role in shaping ComCom’s work. ComCom wishes to thank Jean-Pierre Hubaux for his many years of devoted service.
