Christian Bovet was born on 24 April 1959.
He studied law at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland).
His doctoral thesis dealt with banking and cartel law aspects of syndicated loans.
Christian Bovet worked for several years as a partner in a Geneva law firm.
He received a LL.M. (Master of Laws) from the Law School of Columbia University (New York) in 1988. He then worked as a foreign associate for the international law firm Debevoise & Plimpton in New York.
He sits on the council of the Walther Hug Foundation which awards annual prizes to the authors of the best doctoral theses presented in Switzerland and periodically awards a prize to a professor in recognition of their excellent academic work. Furthermore he is a member of the editorial board of Concurrences, the review of competition law.

Christian Bovet has been Dean of the Geneva University Law School since July 2007.
A doctor of law, he became ordinary professor in 1998.
